The content of this site is created by the students enrolled in Ryan Donovan’s World Theatre 3 seminar at Hunter College this spring. Students determined what the site covers inspired by the historical context, production, and text of Machinal as an online enhanced program to Hunter’s production.

Sophie Treadwell’s Machinal fits squarely into the course’s period of study (from naturalism to today). Hunter’s production has provided a perfect opportunity for students to delve into various facets of theatre research to create this site, which aims to provide you with a glimpse backstage at the production, historical context, and interpretations of the issues and themes in the play.
