Alexa Lampe: Getting to Know Helen and George Jones

For the website I interviewed two actors that play the main characters in the school production of Machinal. I interviewed Nicolle Marquez who plays Helen Jones, and Harris Ansari who plays George H. Jones. I asked them a few questions about themselves like their background, and also on previous work that they have done in the past. These are the questions I asked: Where are you from/where were you born? What is your major? Have you been in other projects in the past, if so what were they? What are your plans for when after you graduate?

Nicolle Marquez was born and raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico. She moved to Florida with her family when she was 17 years old. Nicolle finished her bachelor’s degree at the Florida International University in Miami where she graduated with a degree in journalism and mass communications. She moved to New York City and later Buenos Aires to pursue her dreams of being an actress. She is currently in her semester of her Master’s degree in Theatre at Hunter College.

In Buenos Aires, Nicolle has performed a mix of Ancient Greek tragedies, classical plays from the U.S and Europe, as well as traditional Argentinian plays. She has also practiced post modern dance and Argentinian folkloric dances which eventually led her to perform plays involving theatre dance and physical theatre in small independent theatres in Buenos Aires. She has also created a passion for filmmaking. She is also a part of a feature film called “Halfway” directed by Joel Alfonso Vargas. After graduating she will continue to be working on “Halfway”, and also have future plans to make a documentary in Puerto Rico talking about the aftermath of Hurricane Maria. Nicolle will continue making theatre and film to tell stories that matter and that can provoke social awareness.

Harris Ansari was born in New Hyde park and raised in Long Island (Huntington) for 17 years. He majors in Journalism at Hunter College. In high school, Harris was part of the ensemble in “Legally Blonde”, he also played an inspector in Agatha Christie’s “A Murder Announced”, and Mr. Potter in “It’s a Wonderful Life”. Harris currently works in film and hopes to make more time for filmmaking after he graduates.
